The best tour operator in Tanzania
Good afternoon, everyone! We went on a Safari from Zahar Safaris in December and I can say this is the best safari tour organiser in Tanzania. We saw a lot of wonderful animals in the Serengeti Park. We also received a small Zohar gifts (water bottle etc). We are very grateful for organising an individual tour for us. And the hotel was wonderful! Amazing safari and cultural experience, memories to last a lifetime! So glad we went with Zohar.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Zohar! I was nervous to book the safari for many reasons: it was our first time visiting an African country, we were in the middle of an extended world trip and so our luggage situation was not ideal, and although I researched thoroughly I was still always slightly concerned that things sounded better on paper than they would be in real life. I did not need to worry! Lilian and the team at Zohar were so professional and really took care of everything. Pre-travel, the safari guides and emails received were very helpful. We always received quick responses (or an explanation as to why there might be a delayed response). Lilian was always happy to do whatever she could to help us prepare for the trip. When we arrived, we had a WhatsApp group so that we could easily talk with the team if needed (although this was usually for photo sharing). Lilian also met with us in person before we left Arusha, to go over everything and answer any last questions. We were surprised when Jacqueline came to the airport to say goodbye before we left for Zanzibar (we had not expected anyone). It made us feel appreciated that the team at Zohar wanted to meet in person to make sure all our questions were answered and that we had a good time. We also appreciated the gifts of custom water bottles for the safari (reduce the plastic waste of many smaller water bottles!) and coffee beans to take home. All of the hotel and itinerary recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed every moment. My kids are picky about where we stay and they really liked all of the places that were booked for us. Lilian warned us in advance about any quirks of the accommodations, which are expected when you are staying in a national park, but they were still clean, comfortable, safe and provided ensuite bathrooms and hot showers! We were in Tanzania for 3 weeks and did not need to think about anything- as Lilian said, our only job was to show up on time, they took care of the rest! We appreciated them checking in with us frequently and being on top of it when (rarely) an issue arose. Solomon and Goodluck were fantastic safari guides and my kids still can’t believe we got to see a cheetah run at top speed in the wild to capture a gazelle! Some other unforgettable safari moments were having a herd of elephants come so close to us we could have touched them if we reached out, seeing a lion family resting on a rock and watching a mama lion catch breakfast for her cubs. We really appreciated Solomon and Goodluck’s expert driving, vast knowledge, keen eye and patience with our questions (and for their patience with our kids!). I’ve since learned that the safari experience we had is not always typical, and for that we are even more grateful to have had so many quiet moments, away from the crowds of safari trucks and enjoying the animals around us. We were also thankful that we received some authentic experiences. We wanted to learn about Tanzania while we were here and we did get to do that. We were able to visit with multiple Tanzanian tribes, and felt that this was done in a manner that was very respectful of the culture. We tried local foods and even got to do a cooking class in Zanzibar. We are so grateful for the skill and expertise of Lilian, Solomon, Goodluck and the rest of the team at Zohar. I had emailed many companies for quotes but Lilian stood out in many areas- price, quality of accommodations, speed of replies and ability to craft an itinerary that was ideal for my family. We felt that we were not another large group of tourists, like some of the other groups we saw, and that they truly wanted us to see what Tanzania was about. They also wanted to make sure our trip was memorable and comfortable, and the little details were always attended to (even cleaning the safari truck daily when possible!). Don't miss the Zohar teams!
We decied to order our trip to the Zohar having the good review on this site and others. It was best choice for all we think. The Zohar teams made a special good plan considering our every hope & set the 30th years marriage anniversary party at the camp site. And at the last night presented the sparkling wine with our special label for our anniversary. We have spend 8 days with the guide "Solo". He searched the animals which we wanted to see including the big 5 from early morning & made all of them the true view. He drived car to the good position and explain to us animals also birds using the illustrated book. Once we decided that we wanted to do a Tanzania safari to celebrate our honeymoon, we started looking into the multitude of local tour providers. After chatting with our final 8-10 local tour operators, we decided to go with Zohar. Lilian, the owner of Zohar, was our main contact during the planning process. She was so helpful and always patiently worked with us updating and refining our itinerary based on feedback/research on proposed stays, activities. What set Zohar apart from others was that Lillian was communicative and advised us like a friend, rather than just a business operator. She has personally experienced many if not all the stays/activities and only recommends those that in her experience are worth going to or doing. We followed her recommendations, and she was always spot on! She made sure we had a special and personalized experience from airport pick-up all the way through drop-off. Our driver-guide Solo was also amazing! He has many years of experience, and it made a huge difference in terms of the comfort of the long drives knowing that we could trust our guide’s judgment. During our trip we always felt safe around the animals even though we could almost touch them from our jeep. We wanted to see as many animals in their natural environment as we could, noting that this is highly dependent on time of year and that you should try to schedule your trip during one of the dry seasons. Our safari was in the second week of January and was focused on the northern circuit. Although we experienced some heavy rain on some of the days (mostly in the afternoon), we were able to see all the animals, including the harder to spot rhinos, cheetahs, and leopards thanks to Solo! He consistently brought us to prime animal viewing before others arrived. At times we were alone in the Serengeti witnessing magic before our very eyes. While a smartphone can capture many of the closer animals, sometimes it was helpful to have a longer zoom to capture sightings in the distance. The jeep also comes with a pair of strong binoculars in case you just want to take it in with your eyes. We truly had the trip of a lifetime and created so many memories! Zohar delivers a highly personalized special trip from planning all the way to execution and they are constantly finding ways to improve their already excellent services. WARMEST RECOMMENDATIONS- THANKS TO TEAM ZOHAR FOR OUR AMAZING TRIP WITH YOU😍
We had a great vacation in Tanzania and much is thanks to Zohar and the people that work there☺️ Our journey with Zohar started some months before our arrival in Tanzania. At first we researched and compared many different Safari Tour Operators, but we got a really good feeling about Zohar and contacted them. It seemed like an authentic local company that really cares about the customer and seems to ”walk the extra mile” with a personalized touch. We contacted Zohar and had email correspondence with Lilian, who was really helpful and suggested good itinerary options. We changed our budget and wishes a couple of times but that was fine, Lilian just gave us the best support to create a suitable schedule for our 7 days of adventures! We did 4 days Safari, 1 day Massai-experience and 2 days of different hikings. After we agreed on the final itinerary, we proceeded to the payment which went very smooth. When the departure date came closer Zohar provided some really nice documents; detailed itinerary plan, packing list and other good to know-information. Last but not least, Zohar made a WhatsApp group where we could quickly ask questions. Awesome! When we arrived at the JRO Airport we met the first Zohar representative in person, a really nice a friendly guy named Goodluck. His warmly welcome made us feel in good hands and safe!🫶😊 The following week will definitely be memories for the rest of our life. We have much good to say about all Zohar staff we met, but the one we spent most time with was our safari guide Tumsifu ”Tom”. We can’t imagine a better guide than Tom and really recommend him. It was easy to tell that he has a lot of experience as a Safari guide. He was passionated, had great knowledge of the nature and animals, and he was driving us safely through the roads in the national parks. Also, he was doing everything he could to find the perfect spots for photos and animal watching. In addition to Tom’s professional skills, he is also really friendly, humble and funny, and also he showed good “social understanding” where he let us have time alone but also together with him. The picknick lunches with Tom inside the National Parks were great! Super good food and nice conversations😀 We enjoyed our time with Tom a lot, and he also gave us lots of tips about our journey. Thank you Tom for taking so good care of us and for all the laughters, we will always remember the week we spent with you in Tanzania! After 4 days of safari, which was our main activity, we did the “massai experience”, which was great! It was not a “Touristic” place, it was a real Authentic Experience and interesting to meet the Massai family and learn more about their culture. We also did Hiking at Shire Plateu in Kilimanjaro, about 3500 m altitude - with the guide named Elias. He was like all other staff a fantastic person. Humble, good experience and knowledge about Kilimanjaro. The hike was 8km long and easy, everyone can do it. The views of Kilimanjaro Summit and the surrounding landscapes were just amazing🤩 The last day with Zohar was a hike to Materuni Waterfall and an activity where we made our own coffee. It was interesting to learn how to make coffee and the waterfall was amazing! 90 meter high fall with stunning surrounding landscapes! We also ate delicious local lunch in the middle of the banana plantations. This activity was made with the guide Margareta, who had great energy and was a very good guide as well! During this day, we also had the pleasure to spend time with Goodluck again, as he was the driver and joined for the lunch. He drived us to the airport in the evening and helped us find quick local food and ATM. After our 7 days with Zohar it came to a sad goodbye when we took the flight to Zanzibar for a week of relaxation. Even after our scheduled days with Zohar they offered further support during our vacation. If you’re thinking of doing a safari, we 100% recommend you to book your adventures with Zohar. Amazing people and we felt so well taken care of, and also the pricing was really good. Everything felt perfect, it was a great mix of activities, accommodations, and food. Also, the itinerary was well scheduled so we had some time between the activities to recover and reload for next day😍 Now afterwards, when we know the result and reality, we can definitely confirm that it is an authentic local company that really cares about the customer and all the employees really “walk the extra mile” with personalized touches ☺️🫶 Thank you so much Zohar and especially Tom for making our trip to Tanzania unforgettable! Amazing experience from first reaching out to enquire about a safari to the trip coming to an end. The whole team at Zohar was very helpful and professional throughout, with great communication and constant updates. Our safari was for our honeymoon and Zohar went above and beyond to make the safari extra special, with lots of lovely personalised surprises from start to finish. Solomon, our safari guide, was incredible. We managed to see so much more wildlife than expected thanks to him, and we learnt more about the animals too. We booked our safari with Zohar African Safaris, because they had been recommended to us. And indeed - we also were more than happy to have chosen this tour operator. They were very flexible when adapting the tour according to our personal wishes. Everything was organized the way we had wished for. Special thanks to Lilian, who was available for us at any moment during the planning process and later during the tour itself. It was a great pleasure to communicate with Lilian! The lodges were well chosen - they were really comfortable, very clean, and the food was just amazing. But the best of all was of course our guided safari tour - thanks to our well experienced and competent guide Solomon. It was amazing how he could spot the animals even though they were really far away. Thanks to his good and expert explanations we learned a lot about the nature and the animals we saw. Moreover, he was a fanstastic driver - since the muddy roads were quite challenging. The safari tours were just amazing!
