Materuni Waterfalls Hike,
Coffee Tour + Local Lunch - $ 119 Per Person
Materuni Waterfalls is an incredibly impressive waterfall, in fact, it’s the tallest in the area, spewing crystal-clear glacier water 70 meters into its basin. The waterfall is situated 2500 meters above sea level, and you can enjoy great views of Kibo and Moshi town on a clear day as you hike through valleys and hills covered by tropical rainforest, aged coffee plantations, banana, and avocado farms.
The hike to the base of the waterfall takes approximately an hour one way and can be quite demanding, so it is recommended that you wear suitable hiking boots (and walking poles if necessary), especially for elderly people. After visiting the waterfalls, you will return to the village where you can enjoy a fantastic coffee tour. Here, you can participate in transforming coffee beans grown and harvested in Materuni coffee plantations into coffee by cooking the dry raw coffee beans in outdoor fires. You can then manually pound the beans in wooden vessels and filter its husks to the beat of African chants sung by Materuni women. The tour also includes a local lunch where you can enjoy different delicious Tanzanian cuisines.
- PS.You can do this day trip if your flight arrives early, between 7am-12noon.
