Mt. Meru Trek

Overview

Standing at 4,566 meters, Mount Meru is an active stratovolcano and the focal point of Arusha National Park in Tanzania, providing a beautiful opportunity to spot different animals during treks, including giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and baboons. Mount Meru is famous for its extensive cliffs and lovely green environment.

Mount Meru is the sixth-tallest mountain in Africa and the second tallest in Tanzania. Often referred to as Mt. Kilimanjaro’s “little brother,” this mountain, while not as high as Kilimanjaro, presents an equally formidable challenge. Climbing Mount Meru can be an excellent preparation for ascending Kilimanjaro, helping the body acclimate to higher altitudes. The mountain offers a less frequented and unique experience that is worth pursuing.

Climbing Mount Meru typically takes 3 to 4 days and requires more technical climbing skills compared to the trails on Kilimanjaro. Even though Mount Meru is not as high as Kilimanjaro, it is more challenging, so prior climbing experience is important.
