Devil’s Pool
Devil’s Pool
Devil’s Pool is located near Livingstone Island in Zambia, almost midway across the mile-wide Zambezi River as it cascades into a 105-meter-deep gorge. This deep natural Pool was created due to erosion. There is a rock ledge on the lip of the falls, where the water is only a few centimeters deep. This natural barrier allows you to jump into the deep Pool without getting swept over the edge.
From the Devil’s Pool, you can lean over the edge and look right into the 105-meter chasm of the falls, with vast torrents of water flowing just meters away. Here, you can explore Rainbow Falls and the Horseshoe on the island’s eastern side while witnessing the majestic Main Falls on the western side.
The best time to visit Devil’s Pool is during the dry season, which is from August to January. During this period, the water levels of the Zambezi River are lower, and the current is calmer, making it safer for visitors to swim in Devil’s Pool and approach the edge of the falls.
