Devil’s Pool

Devil’s Pool
Devil’s Pool is located near Livingstone Island in Zambia, almost halfway across the mile-wide Zambezi River as it plunges into a 344-foot-deep (105-meter) gorge – Victoria Falls. This deep natural pool was formed by centuries of erosion. A rock ledge sits right on the edge of the falls, where the water is just a few inches (centimeters) deep. This natural barrier makes it possible to swim in the pool without being swept over the edge.
From Devil’s Pool, you can lean over the edge and stare straight into the 344-foot (105-meter) abyss of the falls, with immense torrents of water rushing past just feet away. Visitors can also explore Rainbow Falls and the Horseshoe section on the island’s eastern side while taking in the breathtaking Main Falls to the west.
The best time to visit Devil’s Pool is during the dry season, from August to January, when the Zambezi River’s water levels are lower and the current is calmer—making it safer to swim and approach the falls’ dramatic edge.
