Ivy Waterfalls trails
The Ivy River Trail is a 8.7-mile (14-kilometer) route that links the Nkuringo and Buhoma sectors of Uganda’s renowned Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. This immersive trek offers a rare opportunity to walk through one of the most biologically diverse forests in the world, combining rich wildlife encounters, lush scenery, and meaningful cultural interaction.
Taking 4 to 6 hours to complete, the hike winds through ancient rainforest teeming with life. Along the way, you may spot elephants, buffaloes, monkeys, chimpanzees, and—if you’re lucky—a gorilla or two. The trail is also a birdwatcher’s dream, with numerous endemic and migratory bird species flitting through the canopy and undergrowth.
Beyond nature, the Ivy River Trail also brings you into contact with the Batwa people, the original forest dwellers of the region. Interacting with the Batwa adds a deep cultural layer to your hike, offering insights into their traditional lifestyle, knowledge of the forest, and resilience.
Whether you’re a serious hiker, a nature enthusiast, or simply seeking a more intimate connection with Bwindi, the Ivy River Trail delivers an unforgettable blend of biodiversity, culture, and breathtaking landscape—one step at a time.
