Lake Ihema is a hidden gem in the East of Rwanda, surrounded by the lush Akagera National Park. This beautiful lake spans 100 km2, offering visitors the perfect escape and a chance to reconnect with nature. The area around Lake Ihema in Akagera National Park offers a wide range of activities, from serene options like bird watching and canoeing to more adventurous pursuits such as biking, hiking, and game driving.
Besides its natural beauty, Lake Ihema is also a habitat for a variety of wildlife. Many migrating animals stop at the lake, so taking a safari through the park will allow you to see various creatures. During a boat ride, you will have the chance to explore the diverse wildlife and water bird species in and around the lake, including hippos, crocodiles, Papyrus Gonolek, Jacanas, Herons, hawks, Kingfishers, and the rare shoebill storks.
You can opt for a boat ride in the Morning at 7:30 am and 9:00 am or a magical sunset experience at 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
