Mulala Cultural Experience

Mulala Cultural Experience
Just a 30-minute drive from Arusha, nestled on the fertile slopes of Mount Meru, the Mulala village welcomes you with the warmth and joy of its women. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with lively chants and traditional dances, an authentic welcome into this vibrant African community.
Founded in 1997 by six remarkable Warumeru women with a mission to build a local secondary school, the Mulala Women’s Group offers a deeply inspiring cultural immersion that blends empowerment, sustainability, and hospitality.
Activities & experiences
- Taste & learn: discover how the women produce cheese, butter, yogurt, and honey. All crafted using local ingredients. Their dairy products are proudly sold in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
- Scenic agricultural walks: stroll through lush fields of coffee, maize, and vegetables, ending at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Arusha town with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the east.
- Interactive coffee-making: roast freshly harvested beans over an open fire, pound them by hand, and sing along with the women as you prepare authentic Mulala coffee the traditional way.
Stay & support
Extend your visit with an overnight stay in this peaceful village. Help support the ongoing construction of new classrooms and other infrastructure projects. Volunteers are welcome to participate in meaningful work while enjoying the hospitality of the community.
