Mulala Cultural Experience
Mulala Cultural Experience
You will feel the love of the Mulala women as soon as you arrive at the Mulala village just 30 minutes above Arusha town on the slopes of Mount Meru. You will be greeted by their chants and dance, as is the traditional greeting when entering a traditional African village. Experience their joy while immersing in a rich cultural experience created by 6 dynamic women who have been committed to building a secondary school for the local children of the Warumeru children since 1997.
Their activities include making handcrafts, producing and processing honey and milk products such as butter, yogurt and cheeses. Mulala cheeses are later sold in the markets of Arusha and Dar es Salam. Visits include a scenic walk through Mulala’s agricultural fields where maize, coffee and other products are grown in Mulala’s fertile fields while gently ascending its village path to an overlook of Arusha town below with clear views of Mt Kilimanjaro 45 miles to the east.
After lunch, you can participate transforming coffee beans, grown and harvested in Mulala’s coffee plantations, into coffee by cooking the dry raw coffee beans in outdoors fires and afterwards manually pounding them in wooden vessels and then filtering its husks to the beat of African chants sung by the Mulala women.
Visitors can stay overnight to enjoy this lovely peaceful African village where visitors can volunteer in the construction projects that are continuously taking place including building additional classrooms for their secondary school.
