The Ngorongoro Crater Rim walk is a great way to take a break from your wildlife viewing safari and explore the African Bush. You’ll get to see tracks and signs of wildlife, and experience the feeling of isolation that comes with trekking in the African wilderness. An expert guide and armed ranger will accompany you to ensure your safety from any dangerous animals.
To begin your Ngorongoro Crater Rim hike, you will be driven to the starting point. The walk follows the Western rim of the Crater, passing by the stunning Oloirobi viewpoint. There are forested areas at the start, which later open up into grasslands. As you walk, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Crater on your right, and stunning vistas of Olduvai Gorge, the Serengeti and the Gol mountains on your left.
This is an easy hike, with no steep climbs and only a few gentle slopes. It takes around 1.5-2.5 hours to complete, and can be enjoyed at any time of day, although we recommend avoiding the midday heat. The best time to go is either early in the morning or in the evening after your game viewing safari.
