Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau day trip

Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau day trip
Perched at approximately 11,500 feet (3,500 meters), the Shira Plateau is a dramatic and scenic expanse on the western shoulder of Mount Kilimanjaro. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, this plateau is one of Kilimanjaro’s oldest geological features. It offers rugged trails, panoramic views, and volcanic rock formations, all set against a wild alpine backdrop that borders Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
Though wildlife sightings are rare at this elevation, the Shira Plateau is rich in alpine flora and is an excellent location for photography and high-altitude day trekking.
Itinerary
Your day begins with a 4-hour drive from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, taking you through scenic mountain zones to the Shira trailhead.
