Walking safaris offer the ultimate way to experience the African bush up close. They can last from a few hours to several days, and provide a refreshing break from game drives. On a walking safari, visitors can learn fascinating facts about nature, birds, insects, and local plants, which they might not fully appreciate from the seat of a safari car. Walking also allows for a better sense of the scents and sounds of the African bush.
It is undoubtedly an adventure and a thrilling experience, especially if the walk extends into wildlife habitats, where encounters with freely roaming animals are possible. However, safety is not an issue as an armed ranger and experienced guide accompany all walks.
Walking safaris can be organized in most of Tanzania’s parks, concession areas, and reserves, including Arusha Park, Lake Manyara Park, Southern & North Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater Rim, Ngorongoro Highlands (including Empakai and Olmoti Crater), Wildlife Management Area in Tarangire, and Nyerere Park.
