What are the Big Five Animals?
The term “Big Five” refers to a distinguished group of five remarkable animals native to Africa: the lion, leopard, African elephant, rhinoceros, and African buffalo. This designation does not stem from their size, but rather from the unique challenges and complexities that arise when attempting to hunt them on foot.
Why are they called “ Big Five”?
The phrase “Big Five” was first introduced by big-game hunters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During this time, big-game hunting became popular among European explorers and colonizers in Africa. The Big Five are called the “Big Five” for their remarkable strength, captivating presence, and elusive nature, and they are recognized as some of the most prestigious and challenging animals to pursue in the realm of hunting.
Where are Big Five animals found in Tanzania?
The Big Five animals can be found in most of Tanzania’s parks, with some locations offering much better opportunities for spotting them compared to others. While it can be challenging to see all five in a single destination, certain parks significantly increase your chances of encountering four of them.
