OVERVIEW

Famous for being called the “land of a thousand hills,” Rwanda is a stunning country in the heart of Africa, approximately 75 miles south of the equator. Despite its civil war history, this small, landlocked nation has emerged as one of the most remarkable safari destinations and is now considered the safest country to visit in Africa. The Genocide Museum in Kigali serves as a place for Rwandans to honour their loved ones and offers visitors valuable insights into this beautiful country’s history.

The primary activity in Rwanda is gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes Mountains, where you can get up close to the gorillas during the tour. Rwanda offers a unique advantage for spotting gorillas quickly compared to Uganda, making it a popular choice for gorilla trekking. Another well-liked destination is Nyungwe National Park, renowned for being one of the world’s most exquisite and unspoiled mountain rainforests. This park is home to chimpanzees and 12 other species of primates, including a 400-strong troop of Ruwenzori Black & White Colobus. In the eastern part of Rwanda, Akagera National Park features low mountains, woodland, and swamps inhabited by zebras, elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species. Rubavu, also known as Lake Kivu, is Rwanda’s ideal beach retreat for relaxation after gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes Mountains. Rubavu serves as the starting point of the Congo Nile Trail, offering abundant opportunities for biking and hiking trails.
