Lake Zone

lake-zone-map

OVERVIEW

Our lake zone destinations consist of Lake Victoria and Rubondo Island. Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest and the world’s second-largest lake, covers an area of 68,800 square kilometers (26,600 square miles) and spans Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. The lake is inhabited by over 200 fish species, with tilapia being the most economically important for the local communities surrounding the lake. Adjacent to Lake Victoria is Rubondo Island, a unique safari destination that provides a habitat for small groups of chimpanzees. Visitors also have the opportunity to observe other animals, including elephants, hippos, giraffes, crocodiles, marshbucks, bushbucks, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and otters.

The Lake Zone generally attracts fewer tourists due to the lack of infrastructure. However, this also makes the Lake Zone a more unspoiled safari destination, away from the crowds, for an authentic experience.
