Akagera National Park
At the border with Tanzania in the Northeast of Rwanda sits Akagera National Park, the largest protected wetland in Africa. The combination of savannah plains, forest-fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, and rolling highlands makes Akagera one of the most magnificent sites in Africa, teeming with remarkable wildlife.
The park is home to various large plains game, including elephants, buffaloes, topis, antelopes, waterbucks, Maasai giraffes, serval cats, and savannah birds. Notably, large predators such as lions and leopards also roam these lands. Additionally, Akagera boasts a thriving primate population, with olive baboons, vervet and blue monkeys, and bush babies often encountered during night game drives.
One day or more can be sufficient to enjoy Akagera National Park.

WHEN TO VISIT
The best time to visit Akagera National park is during the long dry season that lasts from June to September and the short dry season from Mid-December to Mid-February.
