Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park, located along Rwanda’s northeastern border with Tanzania, is a breathtaking wilderness and the largest protected wetland in Africa.
This diverse landscape, where savannah plains meet forest-fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, and rolling highlands, makes Akagera one of Africa’s most spectacular safari destinations, teeming with an impressive array of wildlife.
Akagera is home to a variety of large plains game, including elephants, buffaloes, topis, waterbucks, antelopes, and Maasai giraffes. The park also shelters elusive predators such as lions and leopards, adding to its allure for big game enthusiasts.
In addition to its savannah wildlife, Akagera supports a thriving primate population. Visitors can spot olive baboons, vervet and blue monkeys, and, during a night game drive, the elusive bush baby.
The park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with a diverse array of savannah bird species adding to its rich ecosystem.
A full day can provide a rewarding glimpse of Akagera’s beauty and wildlife. If you want a more immersive experience, staying at least one night allows for extended game drives, night safaris, and the chance to witness the park’s stunning landscapes at sunrise and sunset.
