Udzungwa National Park


Part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, Udzungwa National Park is a biodiversity hotspot known for its extraordinary variety of life.
The Eastern Arc Mountains are renowned for their high concentration of endemic plant and animal species, making this park one of the most ecologically significant areas on Earth.

A haven for wildlife & rare primates
Udzungwa is home to some of East Africa’s most diverse forests, supporting an incredible range of wildlife and bird species.
The park is particularly notable for its 12 primate species, including two that exist nowhere else in the world—the Iringa Red Colobus and the Sanje Mangabey, both discovered in 1979.
For bird enthusiasts, Udzungwa is a true paradise, hosting hundreds of bird species, including the rare Rufous-winged Sunbird, making it one of the top destinations for birdwatching in Tanzania.
Majestic waterfalls & scenic trails
One of the park’s most breathtaking attractions is the Sanje Waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Tanzania, plunging 558 feet (170 meters) into a lush rainforest basin.

HOW TO GET THERE
- road: the park is approximately 7.5h from Dar-es-Salaam and about 1.5h from Mikumi NP.
- flight: as there is no airstrip in Udzungwa, one can take 1.5h flight from DAR to Mikumi then drive to Uduzngwa.
