Tanzania Mountain Trekking

Overview

Tanzania is well-known for its excellent trekking opportunities, with a particular focus on two prominent peaks: Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Both mountains offer distinct trekking experiences that attract adventurers from all over the world.

Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at 5,895 meters, is the highest mountain in Africa and the second highest in the world. The journey to its highest point, Uhuru Peak, typically lasts 6-9 days and can be accessed through various routes, including the popular Machame and Lemosho routes. While the climb is challenging due to altitude, it does not need technical  skills, making it accessible to many adventurers.

Often considered Kilimanjaro’s ‘little brother,’ Mount Meru rises to 4,566 meters. It offers a more technical climbing experience but is still suitable for those without advanced skills. The trek generally takes about 3-4 days and is often used by climbers as preparation for Kilimanjaro. The slopes of Meru are rich in wildlife and provide stunning, awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscape.

Both mountains are located in diverse ecosystems, including lush rainforests and savannahs, making trekking in Tanzania a unique combination of adventure and cultural immersion. The best time for trekking is from June to October when the weather is drier.
