Materuni Waterfalls day trip

Materuni Waterfalls day trip
Materuni Waterfalls, the tallest waterfall in the Kilimanjaro region, is a spectacular natural escape just a short drive from Moshi. Fed by crystal-clear glacier water, the falls plunge 230 feet (70 meters) into a cool basin, surrounded by lush rainforest and fertile farmland. Located at an altitude of 8,200 feet (2,500 meters), the trail to the falls offers incredible views of Mount Kibo and Moshi town on clear days.
The one-hour hike to the base of the falls leads you through rolling hills, banana groves, avocado trees, and ancient coffee farms. The trail can be steep and slippery in parts, so sturdy hiking boots are a must, and a walking pole is recommended for older hikers or those seeking extra stability.
After the hike, you’ll head back to the village for an interactive coffee tour. Learn about Tanzanian Arabica coffee from cultivation to cup: roast beans over an open fire, pound them by hand in wooden mortars, and sift the husks while singing traditional Chagga songs. It’s hands-on, cultural, and capped off with freshly brewed cups of your own coffee.
The day ends with a home-cooked Tanzanian lunch, served with a variety of local dishes that showcase the region’s rich culinary traditions.
P.S. This trip can be done on your arrival day if your flight lands between 7 a.m. and 12 noon—the perfect way to begin your Tanzanian adventure with waterfalls, culture, and coffee.
